It's great appeal is its collection of fine antiques. The interior features many of the home's original floors and moldings. The home has been residence to three of Georgetown's mayors, including John Keith and Harold Kaminski. The Rice Museum

The Rice Museum is located in the Old Market Building, the first Georgetown structure to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building was erected in 1842 and is known locally as the Town Clock because of the clock faces located on all four sides of its bell tower. Exhibits include dioramas of the rice culture, The Browns Ferry Vessel  (a 1730's river vessel) and a film "The Garden of Gold" telling the story of the rice culture in Georgetown County. The Prevost Gallery is located in the Kaminski Hardware Building and hosts a rotating art show. The Rice Museum Gift Shop is also part of the Kaminski Building.

The Rice Museum has opened new permanent exhibits on the second and third floors of its Kaminski Building. These include the history of the Kaminski Hardware Company; Gullah history of the S.C. low country; Miss Ruby Forsythe, one of South Carolina's great educators; and Joseph Hayne Rainey, the first African American elected to the U.S. Congress.

Georgetown Maritime Museum   Coming Soon!

An early dream of the Harbor Historical Association was to establish a maritime museum in Georgetown. Now that dream is coming true.

The HHA teamed up with the Chamber of Commerce in restoring an historic structure that was moved from Screven Street to the waterfront on the Harborwalk Marina property. The finished product has the look of a Lowcountry single house. The museum is on the first floor along with a Visitor's Information kiosk that the Chamber mans. The first floor area is about 1100 sq. ft. which provides a good start for the Maritime Museum.

Several ship's models are currently on display.

About $200,000 will be needed to build additional models, to properly display them, and to have other exhibits such as relief maps, nautical charts, paintings and the like.

Since the Harbor Historical Association of Georgetown is a 501(c)(3) organization, contributions are tax deductible.  The HHA plans to develop several ways to make gifts, outright donations, charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts and possibly other ways. This is an endeavor that you will want to become a part of and be recognized for. The museum will be a source of pride for all participants and for the people of coastal South Carolina.
